Hi all,
Above you can see pics from our latest game. It was a high-level affair with Thor, Binary and Nova (post-Annihilation Saga) taking on the likes of Ravenous and Morg in the landing bay of a star destroyer-like space ship that was threatening Asgard after fighting their way through squads of small starfighters. They discovered a plot where Loki had made a deal to unleash hell on earth, literally. The heroes then made their way to New York City to fight demons emerging through fissures in the streets that were boiling over with lava. Loki was also there to oversee his plan of revenge on Thor.
This was our fifth game of Marvel (we’ve previously played the Armor Wars, Nick Fury’s Secret War, Days of Future Past, a home-made West Coast Avengers vs AIM / Modok, and now this high-powered game) and I wish I could say otherwise but this last one was the letdown of the group. The mechanics seemed to break down a bit when everyone is tossing around bunches of d10s and d12s. There really seemed like no room to get a little hurt. Either you shrugged off an attack or you got pounded, and hard! You could say that’s expected with heroes and villains of this stature running around but the game just didn’t “feel” the same as when we were playing the other adventures/scenarios.
Having said that I do think that Marvel has been the most fun I’ve had with a supers game. From having played Champs (various editions), Marvel FASERIP, DC Heroes, M&M, and V&V I find that Marvel has done the best when it comes to having fun at the game table and that’s what I strive for most with our group. We still had fun with the 5th game, but I sort of wish that it was the first game we played and went up from there. In our group we rotate into the GM chair for 3-months at a time so I’ll probably not be running anything for several months while our other two co-GMs take over for a bit, but I can see coming back to Marvel when it’s my turn in the big chair again.
