Modified datafiles...

Modified datafiles...

Postby konate » Sun Oct 28, 2012 9:24 pm

Are there any character datafiles that you thought could be better represented with modifications in Breakout, CW, etc?

I'm sure lots would probably cite DD's d8 combat, The Sentry's power levels in Breakout, some have mentioned the Punisher's Covert Mastery may be a bit too high, or Human Torch's lack of combat skill in Breakout. Any others you think powers, SFX, or specialties, etc you have or would like to change?

Hah! Do I. :D

Breakout:

Black Widow & Daredevil upgrade Combat Expert to Master.
Sentry: Upgrade power traits as per CW writeup.
Human Torch: Add Acrobatics Expert (as per CW writeup).
Black Panther: Add "Anti-Metal Claws" SFX to Wakandan Technology power set (same as the Plunderer's SFX in CW).
Cyclops: Add Psyche Expert (leadership)
Iron Fist: Add Multipower or maybe Burst... his datafile is a bit on the weak side.
Spider-Man: Combine Spider-Powers and Web-Slinging power sets into one, as per the CW writeup (minus the armor power set). Add Multipower SFX. (at that point in time, Spider-Man's web shooters were also a result of his spider-powers. The change also creates a more authentic Spider-Man experience where he isn't using his webbing every panel)

Civil War:

Punisher: upgrade Crime Expert to Master.
Moon Knight: Remove Avatar of Vengeance power set - Moon Knight was very specifically un-powered during Civil War, and in any case hadn't had the "lunar might" effect for years. Maybe keep Enhanced Reflexes (which seems to be on the trainable level, as several non-powered heroes have it) and the non-lunar SFX/Limit. At the very least, remove "Lunar Might" SFX and "Under a Full Moon" Limit.
Cloak: Add Multipower.

Fifty-State:

Black Cat: upgrade Acrobatics to Master. Maybe also upgrade Crime to Master.

I really like your Spidey alteration, makes a lot of sense.

As for Moon Knight, I'd get rid of the increased strength SFX only, along with the associated limitation (like you said, he hasn't had that in 25 years since the time of CW). I'd then give the Arsenal power set "Burst/Ricochet" for both crescent darts and for the way he bounces his trucheon off things like DD and Cap. I'd also like to see him get Menace Master, lose Mystic Expert, but gain Psyche Expert (just to represent some resistance to psychic attacks, as has been demonstrated in the past).

I'd disagree with your assessment that Iron Fist is underpowered. I found him to be quite potent as is when I played him.

Personally, I'd like to see Hulk (from the DLC) be given Invulnerable. It seems wrong that Colossus has it but not Hulk. I know he has second wind but that doesn't stop someone from one-shotting Hulk.

I believe Hulk only has Healing Factor. But, I agree, Invulnerable would be appropriate for the Hulk.

Hulk doesn't need invulnerability beacause of the Rampaging Hulk, just convert physical in emotional stress with PP and go nuts !
Like Tabitha Smith, an RPG player possesses the mutant powers of blowing stuff up and stealing all your stuff.

Yeah, I think the justification for Hulk is "Why would he spend 1 PP to ignore physical stress when he can spend 1 PP to turn it into emotional stress and then become stronger."

Anyway, for Datafiles I'd like to see rewritten? ALL of the Runaways. I don't think any of them got the treatment they should have.

-The Staff of One can defeat Dormammu, and while Nico isn't very skilled with it yet, I think that should be at least a d10. While Blood is Shed obviously makes sense, Nico gets much better control over it and something as small as biting her lip can summon it by the time Civil War occurs. That does not a d6 physical stress make. (And I think Rally should be renamed. It makes sense given she's flooded with emotional and horrific images when using the Staff of One, but that has nothing to do with Rallying).
-Where are Chase's Fistigons? He has the Leapfrog but not his primary weapon? He doesn't even drive the Leapfrog at this point in the story, Victor Mancha does. And it really would have been better represented as an SFX (like the moon copter) than a power set.
-If you're not giving multi-power to Xavin, why bother with an Exclusivity power.
-Molly's limit of Nap Time seems really harsh. It probably should have been something more like "Turn a power into a Sleepy complication" like Uncontrollable.
-Karolina's ok, but I'm not sure she "saves" her friends often enough to justify adding her dice to theirs.
-Victor could probably use Machine Control d8 instead of Influence

But maybe I'm just too big a Runaways fan not to spot minor things like these.

There's a good chance we're going to revisit a few of those YARA datafiles before the book goes to press, so don't fret. :) If you like, shoot me any problems or issues with these characters via the MWP Contact Us feature on the front page. I'll see what we can do. Sometimes it's simply a matter of how you think something should work being different from how our creative team does, but we do listen to feedback. It's why some Civil War versions were improvements on their Breakout ones.

Cheers,

This doesn't actually match up with Chase in CW:YA/R. Pretty sure he had lost the Fistigons by that point, but in any case, he doesn't have them in the story and is also the designated Leapfrog guy.
