New Events for 2013!

I think the Infinity Gauntlet Saga would be better than Secret Wars.

Infinity Gauntlet
Infinity War
Infinity Crusade
Thanos Quest (Prequel) and Other Tie-Ins.

Fatal Attractions, but start with the Fabian Cortez in X-Men 1 and end the event with Bloodties.

The 2099 line.

Ultimatum

And why not, Avengers vs X-Men

I'm sure Secret Invasion is pretty much locked in.

Since it's mentioned right in the Operations Manuel where it explains what Event Books are. It lists Civil War, Age of Apocalypse, and Secret Invasion for examples.

One more "old-time" event that probably won't get considered otherwise would be the Casket of Ancient Winters arc from Simonson's Thor. Depending on when you consider it starting, up through its climax, there is a lot of material there, that spills out into other titles near the climax, and could again easily be extrapolated into other tie-in books for MHR. And you get some good focus on Asgard (in its "prime"?) as well as some great Asgardian villains that might otherwise be missed, as well as getting to examine great disasters in a "disaster movie" kind of supplement or at least section (who'd have thought that 1980s Simonson was writing a template for how to run 00s Emmerich disaster material, but correctly? ;) ).

Take care

That is truly a bummer, but I think there is quite a potential for older events to exist side-by-side with new ones. In particular when Marvel issues nice new graphic novel collections of the older stories. Where the story begins, and how long it is, can be up to the designers. The case could easily be made that the Kree/Skrull war "Event" starts with Fantastic Four #2!

I'm sure we'll get at least one "Classic" Event per year. We got Age Of Apocalypse for this year. And they have been scanning and converting to digital files more and more older stuff. So we'll see what happens with the releases.

I think Atlantis Attacks would be a good option.

It meets all of the criteria that I'd like to see in Event books to come:

1. It involves lots of characters. It ran through all of the comic annuals that year, I believe.

2. It introduces us to new geography/political/genre aspects that we don't have in other Event books planned...Atlantis and the world/civilizations beneath the waves and an "alien" invasion of the US (other countries?).

As an alternate plan...

Maybe when/if we get a Secret Invasion main Event book, we could get Atlantis Attacks as a supplement. The main book gives us the campaign info of dealing with an alien invasion-esque story. The Atlantis Attacks supplement would simply give us a different "alien" invasion to use with the campaign concept.

Just a thought.

I have a LOT of storylines that I love...but just can't see them as different enough campaigns to warrant a whole new event book.

Inferno would be pretty cool, IMO. While it was mainly a X-book crossover, it spilled over bigtime into other titles when demons overran NYC. The art issue is a bummer, though.

Onslaught and Heroes Reborn/Return might be interesting. It plays with some of the same issues as the first Secret Wars - the iconic heroes are "dead", what happens now? (edit - come to think of it, Secret Wars never really dealt with that, the limited series ran concurrently with the heroes having already come back home) What happens when they come back? Do they even come back? I never read the actual Heroes Reborn titles, so I don't know if that's good event material by itself.

World War Hulk sounds like it would qualify.

I have to say, a lot of what you people consider "old-time" strikes me as shockingly recent.

:D

I would love to see Marvel's first "limited series" as an Event, "Contest of Champions". That was a fun series that I'm sure influenced Secret Wars a short while later.
