New Events for 2013!

Wait until you see what we've done with Civil War. It's a much better example than Breakout, which was simpler for good reason. That said, lot of people have played that now with some significant variation on the plot and outcome.

That's really good to know. I really like that Breakout is very similar to the actual comics, because it helps the player and the Watcher to get into the scenes easier. That way they can explore the complexities of the system. MHR looks really simple on the surface, but the game is very complex. Not hard, but full of details and intricate bits that are new for most roleplayers.

I'm glad to know Civil War will be more elaborate, though, I'm really looking foward to it

Fair enough. I am pretty excited about Civil War. I also can see the need for Breakout being fairly simple... This game is very different than most others that I played before and therefore has a learning curve.

Also, I am not against content being focused around Events, nor do I think it is a bad idea that most published Events are based on newer story lines.

I just hope that some talented individuals post fan made mini-events and/or adapt previously published content that likely won't become officially published events (like Secret Wars 1984).

Maybe after we get Civil War and see how an full fledged Event is structured, people will start creating and posting more fan-made Events? That could be awesome. If I had the time, I'd love to create Mini-Events inspired by Born Again, or Death of Jean DeWolff...

If we're having a limited amount of books next year, Dark Reign would be cool with a Siege supplement and perhaps another detailing the Dark Teams or something.

Also I would like to suggest for X-Men fans the Messiah Complex Event and the aftermath that followed as a second Event for 2013.

Fear Itself along with Schism/Regenesis is a great choice for the future, but Dark Reign is a must!

The problem with the Mutant-only events is that... they are mutant only!

Civil War, Secret Invasion, Siege: all can easily envolve an X-Team (the players decided to take sides and all, unlike the X-Men in the comics). But the other way around is harder.

And? One event that's mutant specific wouldn't be a bad thing. After all, we're getting a Cosmic Event this year. And even the mutant specific events tend to include other teams. Mutant Massacre did, Age of Apocalypse did, House of M/Decimation did, and so on. It certainly isn't going to be as one-sided as you believe.

It is a bad thing because sometimes your favorite hero is not a mutant. It would be nice to have the possibility of Captain, Iron Man, Spider, Fantastic Four and others in these events, specially if it follows an ongoing campaing.

Most events should allow you to import other heroes if you want to put a little work into the Milestones.

And don't forget that, as I understand it, the campaign event is in part setting up the "campaign world" that you will be playing in. You are free to do anything you please with that world once you have it.

Take Age of Apocalypse for example. Personally, not a storyline that drew me in...not really a fan. But I'm definitely going to buy the books. Why? Because when I think about the campaign world, what I see is a post apocalyptic world where powerful mutants rule. Even if most of the datafiles are mutants, that doesn't mean that I can't play a non-mutant character trying to exist/survive/overcome in this world that is stacked against him/her.

It is your own "What if?" to play with.

What were your non-mutant heroes/villains doing when the mutants took over?

How will they survive?

How will they fight back?

How will they prevail?

Just a different way to look at any upcoming event.
