Avengers Movie Stuff. SPOILERS!

Avengers Movie Stuff. SPOILERS!

Postby Thorguild » Fri May 18, 2012 10:47 am

The Avengers Movie was great. 'Nuff said. Not really. It was SUPER-Great, but that could go on for a while.

This thread is to discuss what happened in MHR terms.

My first head-scratcher was about the end scene where Tony comes falling out of the space-hole. How's that represented in MHR?

First thought is Tony has taken d12+ physical damage. That's probably not the case, as he can still talk and seems capable of taking actions. Second thought is that he has shut down all his Armor powers through some sort of limit. That works!

But here's my puzzle: What's going when he falls and the Hulk catches him? Some sort of roll against the Doom Pool? Was there some sort of time constraint? Do all the players get a turn before Tony hits the ground, or was it just the Hulk's turn?

What if Tony hadn't gotten his save? Would the Doom Pool have rolled against him for damage? Would it have gotten any bonus dice, or other ways to beef it up? What's the distinction die for getting hit with the Earth?

Post what you think happened! Also call out your favorite scene and take a crack at some unusual dice manipulations that made it possible, and FUN!

This is how I saw it in my head:

Iron Man's Player: I want to fly that nuke right up their effing portal! Teach them to invade us!
Watcher: Make your roll, see if you can do it without taking more stress.
IMP: Umm, ok. *rolls poorly because most of his systems have already been shut down* Crap, an 8.
Watcher: *rolling a CRAP TON of dice* uh, yeah…22, with your current stress, that stresses you out. You do, however, succeed. Tell us how you do it oh heroic Playboy of the Hour!
IMP: *Relates epic scene seen in the movie*
Thor's Player: I see him falling, obviously not conscious. "He's not slowing down! We have to catch…"
Hulk's Player: "RAWR! HULK CATCH!"
Rest of the table: o_O

*--- END SCENE ---*
Transition scene, Stark is now awake, babbling about Shwarma.
Captain America's Player: "We're not done here."
IMP: "Then Shwarma?"
CAP: "Yes, but first we must deal with Loki."
Watcher: How do y'all want to deal with him?
Table: *Recounts the remainder of the movie until the credits*

*--- Roll Credits ---*
IMP: So, about the Shwarma?
Studio: *Makes scene after credits*

*--- End Movie ---*

Just my take!

Stressed out does not have to mean unconscious. I'm also pretty sure that the character can still make reaction rolls if needed (and if narritively possible).

He's certainly unconscious by the time he lands. And he closes his eyes as the nuke lights up Thanos's base. I think, in terms of game mechanics, he ends up with both power sets shut down AND D12+ Stress.
