Most Satisfying MHR Moments

Most Satisfying MHR Moments

Postby pksullivan » Mon May 21, 2012 7:23 pm

I finally had an opportunity to play MHR as a hero rather than as a Watcher this weekend. I had a great time all around and it certainly helped that I was quite an effective character within the mechanics of the game. A friend of mine ran a custom Fantastic Four centric event at this month's Jank on Demand. I opted to play the ever-lovin' blue-eyed Thing with the other three players rounding out the core FF. There was a bit of a brawl on a cargo ship wherein Thing managed to stress out three guards with one attack and then KO Scorpion with a single, mighty blow.

The guy playing Invisible Woman was kind enough to set me up with a force field arena (D12 asset) that trapped Scorpion in with me. Scorpion went next and attacked Thing. I narrated Thing as standing there to take the hit and replying with a roundhouse smash. Mechanically: spent a plot point to roll Godlike Strength D12 and Godlike Durability D12; opted to use Haymaker (double Godlike Strength D12 for an action then add the second-highest rolling die to the Doom Pool); used that Force Field Arena D12 die; it was a buddy situation for D10; it was most definitely Clobberin' Time (D8); and Thing is a combat expert (D8). End result: 4D12, 1D10, 2D8. I rolled 1 opportunity no a D12, moved a max-rolled D8 to the Doom Pool, used a D12 (11) and a D10 (7) for a total of 18, kept a D12 effect die, and spent a second plot point to inflict stress. Scorpion came away with a measly 11.

It was glorious.

Oh, and the guy playing Mr. Fantastic rolled this crap:

That's awesome, haha.

I was Watcher for some friends, running Breakout. One was Iron Fist, down in the prison, but the other two were Thing and Colossus. Those two against Nefaria was brutal, and when Nefaria tried to run... Colossus nabbed him by the arm, spent the PP to keep the effect die as stress, ans slammed him into Thing's chest.

Also, a bit later, Purple Man mind controlled Colossus, so I let them duke it out. Colossus won.

As Watcher, the most satisfying moment I've had (aside from Magneto wiping the floor with Xavier's First Class), was having Mastermind pull forth an illusion that made it appear as if Magneto had joined the fray in a Brotherhood v X-Men battle.

The move nearly swung the fight as an asset to the Brotherhood; but a large part of this was also because the players were convinced Magneto had made an entrance. Ah, deception is priceless.

Mostly Breakout, except for the runner-up:

5. On the Raft, Luke Cage stressing out Carnage emotionally just to be ornery.
4. Ms. Marvel flushing Hydro-Man by punching a hole in the floor of a Raft hallway.
3. Tony Stark, suitless, using just Super-Science Dome tech to bring down an escaping Karl Lykos before the Helicarrier could fry him.
2. Magnitude "complicating out" the Hulk (well, a Hulk) with You Can't Land ON Long Island Sound D12+ by pestering the Rampaging Monster into leaping after him.
1. Tony Stark, buck naked from that whole captured-by-Mutates thing, calling in a unibeam strike on Yelena Belova from the separate room where Sauron stored his armor.

During Breakout our two custom heroes managed to emotionally stress Living Lazer into finally fleeing the battle, we were not winning, by threatening to extinguish his light (i'm a darkness manipulator, my friend has black hole powers)

In the Savage Land act, i managed to do the something similar to the T-Rex, pouring fear in his tiny brain, and stressed out an entire mutate mob with an awesome roll using my area attack SFX and darkness powers against them (they now think i'm some kind of big bad shadow demon ;))

I'll be sure to remind my fellow heroes of those moments from time to time ;)

And, Iceman, an X-men ally in this Event, also got five 1s during the captured scene with Sauron' crew, another losing fight, which allowed me to end the scene by stepping up the doom pool to 2d12, leaving him devolved in the process ;)

Kinda happy to see bad luck do happen at other tables ;)

My favorite moment as a Watcher in Breakout was having Count Nefaria hit Spider-Man with the burning wreckage of a helicopter. Good times, good times.

Psshaw!

No where NEAR as much fun as Spidey swinging under Griffin's attack, onto his back, grabbing his wings and then riding him into the concrete for a nearly-single-hit-stress-out...on a Reaction Roll!

As Watcher, persuing Spidey with two raptors.

Spidey decided to swing around and over a branch to come up behind one of the raptors, kicking it into the raptor in front of it (they were going to sandwich Spidey), only to have the missing third raptor come out of the jungle from the side to tear into Spidey and cut his swing line.

I was sure to use their "Smarter Than They Look Distinction". :D

Spider-Man and Colossus are facing off against Count Nefaria at the top of the Raft. Colossus rips off a door and takes a "batter up" pose. Spider-Man does a flying, swingline-powered kick to knock him into Colossus. While doing so, Spider-Man quips "In Soviet Russia, jail breaks YOU." End result: stressed out Nefaria.
