A Marvel Movieverse campaign. Thoughts, suggestions.

A Marvel Movieverse campaign. Thoughts, suggestions.

Hi everyone. This is my first posting on these boards, and I've been doing a lot of reading since buying my copy of the MHR system.

Having listened to some play sessions on a podcast, I really like how flexible and fluid the rules are and just how devastatingly quick combat can be once you have the hang of things.

But as my topic subject indicates, I'm wanting to try something new. I'm a gamer of 31 years of experience, so making a campaign isn't an issue for me perse. I ran a decade-long MSH game and still own the bulk of the TSR products. But I can see both generating NPC's and cutting down on the amount of books I need to reference as being a very good thing.

So my intention is to adapt my current Movieverse campaign over, adapting all the various Marvel characters who have had a movie where necessary. There's some very good writeups I've found already for movie characters and I've been compiling a little folder of them.

But is there anything I should be bearing in mind when doing this? I feel as if the movie versions of a lot of NPC's are weaker than the 616 universe, and I should adjust accordingly. Also, are there writeups for a movieverse campaign out there already that I might be able to browse for ideas? It strikes me given the success of the Avengers, most people would want to plug straight into that universe without all the comic continutity to deal with....

Any and all help would be appreciated.

I wouldn't power them down that much, it seems to me that the threats in the movie would be somewhat comparable to the ones in the early comics as far as scale goes. We haven't yet seen them go against incredible odds like, say, Thanos or Galactus yet, but the time seems to be drawing near for that. You could easily run the same power sets, but with different-ish fluff behind them.

I've been poking at making up an Avengers Movie Event, and doing some thinking myself on the heroes.

All of the heroes are toned down a little to a) make them more human and therefore more relatable and b) make the special effects necessary for their powers either easier or more dramatic. Hulk uses a lot more effort to break things because it's more interesting when he does, Captain America isn't as agile because a normal human being is playing him and humans moving unnaturally looks bad (see The Matrix Reloaded for examples).
I reserve the right to change my opinion the moment I am proven wrong; that's called learning.
