The Authority

Thanks, Jim. Great comments.

I gave everyone who didn't have Versatile or Multipower some version of one or the other. Good call, thanks.

I like that Apollo, Midnighter and Jenny ramp up the Doom Pool, as they are such brutal power-houses but when I playtest it or hear of others doing so, I will certainly keep an eye on that being a problem.

Thank you!

I can't stand the Authority so I didn't think that I would get much use out of the article (besides great examples of Milestones and Datafiles. Really terrific work on the Milestones. They are my most difficult area of being creative for the game.)

However, I just realized that they would make awesome bad guys. Now I'm thinking of running an Event in my New Avengers campaign where they show up and need to be beaten back. It will probably end up being the precursor to the Civil War event in my home game.

Anyway, great job on the article. Can't wait to see more, especially Milestones, from you.

Thanks, Grimmshade. Glad you turned a positive into a negative into a positive.

Please let me know how they work for you as villains! I think they'd be a brutal super-villain team. That totally works.

This would happen when Jim Shooter takes over writing them, I figure. :)

Yes, that was an allusion for the old people in the audience . . .

Thought it was just for me... I deposited Jim's paycheck at the bank for him a couple times back when I interned at Marvel.

In fact, Shooter would make a great bad guy, come to think of it... maybe a new version of the Big Man from the Ditko/Lee days. He truly was imposingly tall.

This comes late, but I have to add my kudos as well.

Not only are the builds well thought out and emblematic of the characters, but the flavor text, character milestones and general milestones perfectly capture the FEEL of the Authority.
For me, these are DEFINITIVE builds, and like many other people I'm sure, I eagerly anticipate your future efforts.

Thank you for the kind words, Legate.

I'm glad you like it.

I made another one about Wonder Woman/Batman and Superman being transported to Marvel during WWII:

It isn't as good as the Authority.

You're welcome Judd.

Now, I wouldn't call them not as good, but rather still works in progress.
On that note, I was interested in your thought process regarding some of your design ideas.

It's clear that although each datafile incorporates various aspects from various incarnations, your primary theme is their golden age aspect. Hence Superman lacking Flight, Batman using a pistol(nice attention to detail there), etc.
1. Regarding Wonder Woman, is the Conscious Activation limit intended to represent her limitation at the time of losing her powers whenever she was was bound?
2. I noticed Batman has Perception D6 and Senses D8? What difference between the two are you trying to represent? For example, is Perception representing his inherent ability and Senses a function of his equipment?
3. Regarding Superman's weakness to magic and kryptonite. I liked his being more susceptible to Sorcery effects. Nice touch there.
The way magic and kryptonite affect him can be tricky, with more than a few valid interpretations. Hopefully these help give you some ideas: SFX- Invulnerability. Spend 1 PP to ignore stress or trauma from physical attacks unless caused by mystic attacks or kryptonite. Limit- Deadly Remnant. Activtate to gain 1 PP and step up either physical or emotional stress when exposed to kryptonite. Limit- Kryptonite Vulnerability. Activate to gain 1 pp and shutdown power set.

Finally, I was wondering how you chose the affiliations for each datafile? What was your thought process in assigning priority to each category?
That's not flirting with disaster. That's slipping a roofie in her cocktail.
