Boo-Ya! Cyborg!

Boo-Ya! Cyborg!

Postby BaronVonStevie » Wed May 02, 2012 2:18 pm

Cyborg is such a Mary Sue in the new 52 JLA. The move to put him in the team is cool, but he's yet to find a uniqueness. He's the tech head, but... I thought Batman already was. Oh well. Vic finally gets a chance to shine. His stats were fun to put together! Feedback, please.

Cyborg

Cybernetics: Attack d10, Enhanced Reflexes d8, Enhanced Stamina d8, Senses d6, Superhuman Durability d10, Superhuman Strength d10, Technology Control d10
• SFX: Boost. Shutdown your highest rated cybernetics power to step up another cybernetics power by +1. Recover power by activating an opportunity or during a Transition Scene.
• SFX: Transform. Add a d6 and step up your effect die by +1 when using cybernetics to create assets.
• SFX: Sonic Cannon. Add a d6 and keep an additional effect die for each additional target.
• Limit: Exhausted. Shutdown any cybernetics power to gain 1 PP. Recover power by activating an opportunity or during a Transition Scene.

Specialties: Combat Expert d8, Science Expert d8, Tech Master d10, Vehicle Master d8

Milestones:
Do it for Dad: 1XP (any time your father’s wishes become important), 3XP (when your attempts to honor your father cause you emotional trauma), 10XP (when your accomplishment in honor of dad saves the day in a meaningful way or your failure causes you to retire from superhero activity altogether)
In the Big Leagues Now: 1XP (any time you first fight side by side with the Justice League), 3XP (when you first down a potent enemy threat alongside the League), 10XP (when you either receive thanks from veteran members of the League for saving the day or when your failure costs you a place in the JLA)

Very awesome build!

One question though...

His Attack abililty. Is it meant to be a multi-use attack power? Like he could morph it into a Melee Weapon D10, or a Blast D10?

I like Technology Control and I have a character in my campaign that has it, but I actually havent had a chance for him to use his powers.

The way I see it, it's just a big old cannon of nondescript comic book blaster energy. The SFX is specifically for a convert into a sonic effect. I would let the player come up with anything they wanted; a giant chainsaw, a cutting torch, or a machine gun. Whatever.

The Tech control would add to it if, for example, Vic wanted to build a huge version of what he already has or some swank targeting optics or something. There's a lot of cool stuff you could do to describe its application.

One addition I'd suggest - the latest issue of Justice League suggests that he can generate Boom Tubes for transportation, though it isn't always reliable (occasionally, the League have ended up on Apokalips because Cyborg lost control).

A transition scene resource? I'm trying to stick to your typical or iconic Cyborg powers. I know the current books have him working with boom tube tech, but it's not really not part of his core character.

No, but to be fair, the origins of the character changed quite significantly for Cyborg unlike the other members of the Justice League (the only other Leaguer to get significant changes to their origins is Wonder Woman finding out that she's actually a Demi-Goddess daughter of Zeus). Cyborg's origins and nature have been, by the first few issues of Justice League, tied quite heavily into the Fourth World mythos (indeed, between his technology control, his adaptability and the ability to generate Boom Tubes, he seems to have become something of a human Mother Box).

Honestly, I think it's a really good Cyborg build... but I'm personally not sure that it represents Cyborg as he is in the comics now.

I think it's safer to wait on calling his ability to create a boom tube a totally separate power. It's better anyway to stay as iconic as possible when you build in my view. 8-)
