Original Super-Villain time: Professor Haywire!!

Original Super-Villain time: Professor Haywire!!

Postby BaronVonStevie » Mon May 07, 2012 8:27 pm

Originally a villain from a long running Mutants & Masterminds 2nd ed game, the Professor has been a long time favorite of my players. I thought I'd take a crack at him using the MHR system and what I ended up with was pretty darn cool. Would love to hear some feedback on what I've slapped together.

Real Name: Chester Feinnes (public)
Chester Feinnes was branded a crackpot... a never will be... a hack. No one wanted his inventions even though he knew he was a genius. One after the other his inventions cost him more and more of his family's fortune. The one that finally bankrupted his vast estate was a helmet designed to make people smarter. It was basically a bunch of electricity jolted into the brain to stimulate nerves... everyone of his scientific peers thought he was insane. The lawsuits over its faulty design ruined him and in a pathetic fit of "goodbye cruel world" he strapped the crazy contraption onto his head and flipped the switch...

but it worked. The next day he was penniless, destitute, and possessing an IQ somewhere above the 200 mark. Knowing his career as a scientist was ruined, he turned to a life of crime and began to plot revenge on his peers. Feinnes disappeared and re-emerged months later as Professor Haywire; a megalomaniac mad scientist hell bent on becoming the greatest criminal mastermind of the 21st Century.

Did You Know?: Professor Haywire once hacked into numerous banks and bankrupted the entire Chicago mob for making fun of his bow-tie.

Looks like a lot of fun!

The only edit I'd make:

In a couple of places in the Bio, you mention him as a scientist...but you have Tech Master instead of Science Master. I'd probably replace scientist with inventor in the bio.

But that's nothing big, just something that seemed off to me.

I hope you have a blast springing him on your players!

ehhh... it's not a big deal. mad scientists sometimes to tech stuff. "mad inventor" doesn't have the same ring to it.

Hehe, I recall the nutty professor from my time on the Atomic Think Tank, and the Watcher for my groups' upcoming game ran a one-shot demo using Haywire as the baddie. I dunno if he used these stats or made his own based off the M&M2e version you did, but it was fun to duke it out with Marilyn.

Any chance of seeing Haywire's robo-moll?

Real Name: Miss Marilyn

When Professor Haywire first emerged on the scene the underworld laughed at him too... that is until they met Miss Marilyn. Always at his side, this leggy dame with her trademark blonde hair and red dress proves an invaluable asset to the villainous professor. Able to withstand point blank gunfire and crush a man's skull in her bare hands, she's always at his side giving the phrase "drop dead gorgeous" a whole new meaning. Rumor has it Haywire has dozens of Marilyns stashed somewhere, but only employs one at a time.

Yikes, she's a handful and then some.

As for your M&M work, I found it quite helpful during my own days involved with M&M2e to get a feel for what the system was capable of. So for that, you've got my thanks.

no problem! I would like to get into MHR on the same level, although my schedule at work makes things difficult. Running M&M as much as I did helped me a lot in figuring the game out which in turn helped me relax and go "how does this build work and how can I make it fun to play?" instead of just hitting the notes mechanically. MHR puts an interesting challenge forward because so much of the game is narrative. I have to get over my inexperience with the system. I'm getting it. Stay tuned!
