Ex: Wolverine decides to split his attention to take an action and heal his stress. He adds his d12 stamina to the pool, spends a pp and selects 2 effect die, a d12 (from stamina) applied to the opponent as stress, and a d10 to heal his current stress.
Keep in mind that the dice become disassociated from their source traits once they hit the table. That d12 effect die does not mean Wolverine's stamina dealt damage. It means that Wolverine's attack (as part of your narrative) dealt d12 stress. I'd describe the attack along the lines of, "Wolverine lies in a pool of his own blood, motionless and seemingly helpless. This gives him the time to heal and when a Genoshan soldier comes to double tap him, he lashes out with his claws. 'Gotcha, bub!'"
