Just ran first session, have a few questions.

Postby qlawdat » Sun May 06, 2012 4:05 pm

I just had a blast running this for the first time. It is really a great game. I do have a few rules questions though.

1) If you use an area attack sfx vs a mob, how many extra d6's do you get?

2) If someone places a complication on an NPC, and the extraordinary effect rules bump the complication die above d12 what happens? Say if Spiderman webs up a guys legs with a d10 effect die, but beats the foes roll by 15, bumping the complication die to d12+2

3) If someone has more than one type of stress, what die do you use when someone is attacking that character? Both or just the highest?

4) Is the raft scenario kind of easy? It might have just been how things went down, but I felt things were a bit easy for a group of four heroes.

5) On a reaction roll, if you spend a PP to have your effect die do physical damage, can they reaction or roll in any way? Or does that automatically do damage?

Thanks!

One extra d6 per additional "target." So a 3d8 mob gives you two extra d6, since that's two extra targets.

Complications are like stress in that regard. If it goes above d12, they're "complicated out" with the same effect as being stressed out.

Yu get one stress die for free, so it's your choice which one. If they have more than one, you can always spend a PP to include the other stress in your pool.

It depends in how you play it. If things start getting too easy, feel free to spend some doom dice to add more stuff to the scene!

You spend the PP, they take stress. No extra rolling. Yes,that makes counter attacks powerful. However, some heroes are more geared towards defense, and counter attacking is the main way for them to cause stress.

Eldritch's answers were spot on.

Let me just say that I've run Breakout at the Raft a couple of times, and a group of four (with very experienced role-players) breezed through it without anyone taking any Stress (though they were challenged a bit).

But another time I took three less-experienced players through the first part and Count Nefaria more or less took them all down by himself (due to me going all-out with the baddie combined with some bad rolls by the PCs).

Once the heroes start taking some Stress and the Doom Pool starts getting larger, it can really head downhill quickly for the PCs. This adds to the tension and suspense and keeps things exciting! 8-)
