Light speed and Space Flight

Light speed and Space Flight

Postby Claire Redfield » Sun May 27, 2012 1:24 am

What would you rate "mere" lightspeed as far as Space Flight goes? Godlike Speed D12 seems to be about light speed, allowing you "to travel around the world in moments". I imagine Flight at D12 is the same thing. Space Flight D12 allows swift interplanetary travel, so it's definitely faster than light speed.

Would you think Space Flight D10 would be a good rough estimate for the level of light speed in space?

There isn't a Space Flight d10, technically. That's the rating of d12 Flight. It's Subsonic Flight d8, Supersonic flight d10, and Space Flight d12.

Cheers,

Ahhh. I assumed that Space Flight was another type of movement power. Interesting. Quite a jump from Supersonic to interplanetary travel! I'll have to do some thinnin' on how best to put this to use.

Thanks, Cam!

Don't forget that you don't need a d12 flight just to fly through space. Thor can fly through space. You just need to be able to survive. So theoretically there are slower speeds of space flight already in place.

For the purposes of my game, I just determine if a character's power background should allow them to make FTL or not. If a character has Space Flight d12 and their powers are generally cosmic-level, then just let them travel through space as fast as plot allows. If they need to outrun someone or the speed they get someplace matters, allow them to create a Faster-Than-Light Asset to determine how fast they can go. Marvel's cosmic distances have never been very clear anyway.

I would add any kind of FTL ability as an SFX of Space Flight. Or a Stunt if it's a special case ("I'll just sling-shot the Fantasticar around the sun to achieve warp speed to get to Omega Prime XI").
I reserve the right to change my opinion the moment I am proven wrong; that's called learning.

For a character who can fly at exactly the speed of light (Monica Rambeau for instance), I would give them Space Flight d12 and just narratively limit her to C.
