Smallville

Valhalla Falls

Valhalla Falls

Postby Arawn » Sun Apr 08, 2012 11:38 am

A while back I had an idea for using the Smallville game to tell the story of the newly awakened Aesir. The Gods and Goddesses of that ancient pantheon find themselves awakening in the town/small city of Valhalla Falls with only partial memories and reduced power (initially).

The backdrop of the story will be these newly awakened deities trying to deal with whats going on, trying to avoid old patterns and for the love of the Norns wheres Odin?

Otherwise I expect the game to be driven by the actions and desire of the players.

So my point is can this be run using the Smallville rules? Is this a good fit for this game and how much work will this possibly involve.

Honestly, I think it's a perfect setting for a Smallville-style game. The only work I can see being necessary is replacing the stuff that represents aliens (things like heritages, certain parts of the origin path) for equivalent supernatural/mythological elements.

Good to know :)

Thanks, I've had the book since it came out but no chance to properly read it. Before I do that I wanted a second opinion from someone familiar with the system.

When I ran through the Pathways creation process alone to try it out, one of the characters that I created was part of an Elemental Guardian Legacy heritage.

That doesn't sound very far off from the gods of old.

Really, any game that is going to deal more with the drama and relationships than the powers can be run very well in the Smallville rules.

The powers are just fluff and special effects. It's the story of the character that will bring out a great game.

I like your idea a lot.

It reminds me a bit of the setting for White-Wolf's Scion RPG.

Should be a blast. If it gets off the ground, please share the recaps!

Darn they didn't go for it.

I can't complain too much they've greenlit my long shelved Burning Wheel game but I am a little disappointed.
