They just wait patiently in the wings for an author to take note of them.

Just ask the three characters that everyone thought were unreserectable:

1. Bucky Barnes...now the awesome Winter Soldier.

2. Jason Todd Robin...now Red Hood or Red Robin...I can't keep him straight.

3. Barry Allen Flash...back and I believe was recently the focus point of the Flashpoint epic storyline.

When you least expect it...the comic book dead WILL rise.

There's also Gwen Stacy, who aside from a clone here and there, is still dead as I recall. And Batman's and Spider-Man's parents.

They brought back Batman's dad in Flashpoint...in fact he WAS Batman and Bruce was dead.

Gwen has stayed pretty dead though, right on there.

The other one who remains dead in spite of it all is Uncle Ben.

Typically, alternate universe/twisted reality versions (Flashpoint and House of M, for example) don't count - afterall, sooner or later you'll find a universe where that character either didn't die, or simply hasn't died yet (often, a convenient means of bringing a character back, albeit temporarily).

Heh...with retconning...all of the "universes" are pretty much just altiverses at this point.

But I digress...

Personally I love being the watcher. I love seeing how the players react to what I throw at them. I have been Judging superhero games since 1983. I have an entire world I made myself.
