Avengers Movie Alt - TOTALLY SPOILER-Y (And/Or MHRP-Related)

So who doesn't want to see another tie-in movie:

Nick Fury - Director of Shield.

This would be a great vehicle for furthering the stories and action of Nick Fury, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Agent Hill...maybe adding new characters (and complications) like Mockingbird, Ms. Marvel (probably should go with the name Warbird, though) and Spider-Woman. Heh...maybe I won't be getting an Avengers: Spider-Man anytime soon (curse you Sony!), but maybe we can get a Spider-Woman fill-in!

In the upcoming solo movies, I hope we get introduced to more Avengers that are unlikely to get their own movie...Ant Man/Giant-Man/Goliath & Wasp could be some worthwhile additions if done well. Heck...maybe even Dr. Strange could pop up and add some more magic to the mix.

Actually...come to think of it, that might be a good reason to give another Hulk movie a shot...Hulk & Dr. Strange. Hulk has often been shown with the ability to see astral projections...and his tie to the Doc in the Defenders would be a good draw for the fans.

Man...just too many great opportunities.

Cap could bring in the Falcon, Winter Soldier (probably part of Cap II anyway) and maybe even Moon Knight.

How cool would it be if enough secondary Avengers were created in the solo movies that we ended up with a split team dynamic in an Avengers movie...like East and West coast Avengers?

:o

2) Hulk puts an end to Loki's villain-speech with a savage beatdown.

That was priceless.

I really like the approach that they took in keeping the majority of the individual development off-screen (i.e. in their respective movies) and keeping the team dynamic and dychotomies as the focal point of the Avengers movie. The only divergence from this is Hawkeye and Black Widow who had cameo roles in other movies, but their roles were pretty defined as "Agents of Shield".

I do wish, however, that Joss would've remained true to the actual Avengers flagship team, or at the very least cameo them into the movie somehow but maybe that's in the works for Part II.

During the movie I actually thought Loki was dealing with the Desir and in the aftercredits when them moved to the 'outer space' scene I told my wife "THE NEGATIVE ZONE!!!" thinking that the aliens were Neg Zone refugees from Blastaar or Annihilus. I like Thanos, however I don't see the Avengers as a Cosmic Team this early in their creation but...hey, they will get my $$$ either way.

MidnightBlue wrote:All of that happened "off-screen" from The Avengers. Sure, we still got to delve into nuances of the characters, but the bulk of the origin/character creation happened in their solo films. We didn't need a 12 hour Avengers movie to really get to know all of these characters. We knew who Iron Man, Hulk, Thor and Captain America really were deep down inside before we even saw them on the screen in The Avengers.

Oh sure. Origin stories are a lot of fuss and bother. That's why a superhero's second movie is so often better than the first. (Examples: Spider-Man 2; The Dark Knight; Batman Returns. Counter-examples: Iron Man 2; FF 2.)

And even some of the parts of Avengers that involve getting the team together drag a bit. It'll be interesting to see what the next movie's able to get up to, being able to start from a functioning team that already exists.

Watched the movie a second time (still epic!!) and for the life of me, I can't figure out why Stark wasn't enthralled by Loki's Spear of Phallic Servitude. Anyone able to enlighten me?

Thanks!

Just my take...but it wasn't touching skin...it was hitting his mini-arc-reactor-pacemaker-thingy.

I took it as a means of furthering the "Iron Man," not just human theme.

But I could be wrong.

That was my impression as well. Each time, Loki touches the person in the middle of their chest. In Tony's case, that hits the machine, and not Tony.

And if the theater isn't too noisy at the time, you can hear a distinct metallic "Tink, Tink, Tink" sound effect each time he touches the arc reactor there. I thought it was a brilliant little touch. :)

And in case you hadn't put two and two together, arc reactor technology was inspired by the tesseract in the first place (and Hydra weapons, etc). Howard Stark was playing with the captured tech before Tony was born, remember?

I don't mind the fact that Captain America never shouts "Avengers Assemble!" in the movie. I suspect I'm relieved he didn't!

But dammit, at least one character could've referred to the "Tesseract" as the Cosmic Cube at least one time in jest.

:D

I read somewhere that at some point in the movie, they refer to it as "the cube." We'll just have to see it again, I guess.
