Planning my initial Event

Hm... Avalanche is a possibility, or possibly Daisy Johnson undercover except that I don't want to drag SHIELD into this right away. (I'm kind of burnt out on SHIELD being all over the place and behind everything.)

Hmm ... Arclight, Vibraxas, Rictor.

I'm probably going to do with Arclight because I kind of like the Marauders. :D

Here are my data files for the Marauders.

I've only given them 2 distinctions each since they're minor characters, and some of them are pretty one-dimensional. (I feel bad about Harpoon's distinction of "Inuit" anyway, but it's the only distinct thing the guy has canonically. :( )

Arclight's seismic control is higher than it should be; that's a result of the storyline in which her powers have been slightly boosted.

I had the same issues when converting characters from TSR's MU1.

I scoured the roleplay notes, histories and stats for anything that I could use for distinctions and specialties, but sometimes I came up wanting and had to force something into the slot. Especially when I didn't know the character beyond those MSH game pages.

Do people in LA evacuate buildings in earthquakes or are they so used to them they don't bother?

A couple of ideas:
*Breakout: the Marauders use the evacuation to break a villain out of jail or a mental institution
*Massacre: there's a group of mutants holed up somewhere safe. The Marauders stage the earthquake to flush them out so they can murder them.
*Hostage: the Marauders cause a big earthquake and announce that they can do an even bigger one if they don't get one...million...dollars from the City. Also, investigation reveals that they've bought up a lot of real estate along the fault line.
*Rescue: one of the Marauders has recently converted to a religion based on science fiction novels. The Marauders think he's been brainwashed and are causing the earthquake as a distraction so they can get him out. (Wonder Man should probably be a member of the religion)

Nice PDF! I thought the comic panels were a nice touch.

Serious earthquakes are fairly rare. And if there is one, standard procedure is to stay inside, away from the exterior of the building, rather than trying to evacuate.

I wrote up a list of common SFX and Limits for custom heroes to use during character creation in tomorrow's session, but as it just recycles text already found in the MHR Basic Game I am reluctant to distribute it due to copyright concerns.

Here's the email that I sent out to the people who RSVPed on the Meetup.com site for my game tomorrow:

Hi everyone,

Some background information:

  • Your heroes will be in Los Angeles, and will start out unaffiliated with a team.
  • You can be either an existing Marvel character or a character of your own creation.
  • If you want to play a Marvel character, email me so I can bring the right datafiles with me.
  • If you want to play an original character, think up what kind of powers and background you have.
  • An original character must have at least one tie to the Marvel universe, such as origin (Kree, Asgardian, Atlantean, mutant) or relationship with an existing character.
  • If you have the MHR game you can write up your own datafile and mail it to me if you want to.
  • Otherwise, just show up and we'll work out stats on Tuesday.
  • If you want to play a normally villainous character, have a great explanation for why you'd work with heroes, or I won't let you in the group. :)
  • If you have any other questions about the game, just email me!

See you on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Game Empire Pasadena!

Tonight's game went well! I'll write up a summary tomorrow probably.

4 original characters, 4 Marvel characters (including THOR) makes for a really big group, though...
