Quick Sheet

Quick Sheet

Postby Venshad » Fri May 11, 2012 6:40 am

Hi!

As a new player I'm making a quick sheet so the rules are more condensed, for quick reference.

If anyone is interested in helping me, you can manifest here.

Also https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B7j_U-zWz4mmV2NHaHktbDM4SUk is the location of my updated work.

If you wish to alter something, you can. Just tell me who did so I can add a "contributors" session in it.

I hope I can be of help!

I'm hoping to do something similar, but for datafile creation.

-List of all pubilshed powers.

-List of all published specialties/sub-specialties.

-List of all published Limits (Player/Watcher/character variations).

-List of all published SFX (Player/Watcher/character variations).

-List of all published Milestones.

I think having those breakdowns easily accessible and organized, without a lot of flipping pages, will make it easier for me to continue on with my datafile conversion projects.

Cool!

I myself am dedicated in sumarizing rules, so a 3 page document can cover most of the game rules.

I've been working on "capturing" Milestones so that I can reskin them, but a great many of the player created ones don't necessarily follow the OM framework.

MB, since you mentioned it...I would really like to see a breakdown of Specialties instead of the relatively generic "Combat XXX". I am thinking of house ruling something along the lines of you choosing a primary focus and when you operate outside of that focus your die drops -1 step.

For example:

Howler is a Combat Expert with his Claws and Fangs, so he would have "Combat Expert (Claw and Fang) D8", but if he picked up a pistol his Combat Expert would drop to Combat Adept D6.

Hawkeye is a Combat Master (Ranged Weapons), however when he needs to mix it up in melee he drops -1 to Combat Expert.

Doc Fusion is a geneticist, with Medical Expert (Genetics), however if he had had to perform emergency surgery he would drop to Medical Adept since he isnt a surgeon, per se.

I like this because it still allows a broad range of abilities for the Specialty, however it is understood that there is one area that they excel in.

Thoughts?

I would just cover those with Distinctions myself. Like "World's Greatest Archer" or "Genetics Master."

I've reached OM52. The file is about 6 pages now.

Probably I'll be resizing it soon.

I hope you enjoy!

Yeah, I haven't found a huge need to be overly restrictive for Specialties, except when I'm having a hard time coming up with Specialties in a datafile conversion.

Distinctions is a really good place to dump more specific qualificaitons. Nice idea DCL!

But I also don't have a problem giving Ghost Rider a Motorcycle Expert/Master specialty instead of Vehicle Expert/Master either.

I can see going either way.

The one guideline that I try to give myself when assigning specialties is "How important is this to the character concept."

As I noted in a Wonder Woman datafile thread, I know that Wonder Woman has the Invisible Jet, but I never see her ability to fly the jet as a major part of her character. Therefore, I can't see adding Vehicle Expert/Master or even Invisible Jet Expert/Master to her datafile. It is usually just a plot device...how she gets from Point A to Point B...no roll necessary.

No Cyclops is a noted pilot...it is a big part of his character in some storylines and he has been shown piloting everything from the Lockheed to space craft and using his skill in combat maneuvers. He should have a specialty stating as much.

That's just my take anyway.

So taking what DCL posted, The Spooky Flying Surfboard Rider would have:

Distinction
*Spooky Ghost
*World Greatest Surfer
*Everyone Owes Me A Favor

along with the Specialties:
*Acrobatics Expert
*Vehicle Master

Since the Vehicle Master would simulate his extreme skill of Surfboarding along with the Distinction to reinforce that fact.

Or...

Distinction
*Spooky Ghost
*World Greatest Surfer
*Everyone Owes Me A Favor

along with the Specialties:
*Acrobatics Expert
*Vehicle Master (Spooky Flying Surfboard)

So he would get his full Mastery on the SFS, but if he had to drive Ghost Rider's bike for him he would drop to Vehicle Master and wouldn't plausibly be able to add "World's Greatest Surfer" Distinction.

Hmmm...still on the fence.

I see surfing as falling under acrobatics specialty, not vehicle. I mean, it has more in common with walking on a balance beam than driving a car. So in my opinion, you'd get a d8 for acrobatics expert and world's greatest surfer, and not even worry about the vehicle specialty.

As I mentioned in a different thread, if you think your character isn't the "master" of what he's driving, then just use the 3d6s instead of 1d10. Makes sense to me, that you shouldn't get a high result and lower chance of opportunities if you're not really at the true mastery area of your concept.

So riding motorbikes d10, driving cars, buses, etc 3d6. Riding a bicycle, maybe a moped, etc = 2d8. :D Your the master of your own datafile and you should play and roleplay it at every level of its concept.
