How to make a Multiple Man like character

How to make a Multiple Man like character

Postby LichPrince » Thu May 17, 2012 1:46 am

Hey All,

So I was going to start running my first session in the next week or two, and I was just wondering if anyone had any tips for making a Multiple Man like character.

I figured I could use the construct SFX to some degree to simply increase the effect die when creating assets (in this case, more versions of the character).

Yet part of me feels like it would be very effective to just say that every time I use the Duplication power set (Duplicate being the only power trait at maybe d10) I can create a small mob of Team 4d6.

If anyone has any tips or example datafiles they could send my way, it would be greatly appreciated!

I have a character I recently wrote up who has a power set representing the fact that she can spawn minions to serve her in battle.

Minions
•Minions (Duplication) d8, Enhanced Durability d8, Enhanced Strength d8
•SFX: Dogpile. Add a d6 and step up your effect die by +1 when inflicting a grappling complication with your Minions power.
•SFX: Mob Rush. Target multiple opponents. For every additional target, add d6 to your pool and keep +1 effect die.
•SFX: Take the Blow. Spend 1 PP to ignore physical stress or trauma unless caused by an area attack.
•Limit: All Out of Minions. Earn 1 PP if you have Minions shutdown for the remainder of the scene.

The Enhanced Strength represents sending several minions at once to carry something or flip it over, and the Enhanced Durability represents her hiding among her minions and using them as general cover, while the Take the Blow SFX is literally her grabbing a minion and pushing him in front of her to get hit. I think something like this would work fine for the Multiple Man too. Just replace the All Out of Minions Limit with something like Exhausted or Conscious Activation.

Another thing to keep in mind is the versatile SFX. Sure, you may have a duplicate power at d10, but why not use 3d6 instead? It gives the feel of a mob without adding another mechanic to the game. Heck, with the appropriate specialty, you can throw quite the d6 dice pool around!

We've used that datafile in Playgroup B with only minor modifications and it's worked great. Madrox's player, Dave, changed the first two Distinctions to "TOO MANY COOKS" and "THINKS IN NOIR." These strike me as obvious improvements.

One wrinkle: the rules are silent on this, but in Jamie-only scenes we do determine his Affiliation die by taking a dupe census. So if there are three Jamies it's a Team situation.

Nice ideas, the changes you proposed are similar to the original, but "Thinks in Noir" is more fun than just "mutant detective"....i may have to update that datafile....

Personally, I don't think that's necessary. His Dupe power rating already tells you how well he works with his dupes, no matter how many there are. If you want to call out how he works differently when solo, give him a SFX. For example, rename Dangerous to One Man Army and have it only apply when in a solo capacity.

Just my 2¢

Wow thanks everyone! I think I will take that datafile and tweak it a bit with what the rest of you have suggested. Should be a fun session...

I agree.

Being a "multiple man" is diferent from being "a lot of average joes".

Even with his affliations. I would rule if it was Jaime working with Strong Guy both would still roll the buddy die.

There's a perfectly good case for doing it yinz' way. I certainly wouldn't try to argue you out of it.
