Play Area -- Watcher Set-Up

Play Area -- Watcher Set-Up

Postby sak0232 » Fri Jun 22, 2012 7:01 am

Hi all,

I was wondering what size play area you all typically play on...?
My bimonthly campaign meets at a kitchen table, about 3' by 6', but it feels cramped, with 4-5 players and myself.

This leads me to a fellow-up question for Watchers: How much space do you need to comfortably run the game, i.e. space for index cards, all the dice, the doom pool, notes, etc...?

Do you game with a tablet, laptop, or an actual notebook? Laptops seem to take up more space than a tablet or notebook. I personally like to have a TV tray/small table beside me for my dice and pile of tools—index cards, post-its, pencils, etc. I like to keep my iPad in front of me for personal notes & PDF viewing, and have the doom pool right next to it so it's visible to all.

So for comfortable space, I'd say a TV tray and about 2'x2' or 2'x3' space in front of me.

I have an enormous kitchen table that can comfortably seat 6 and, if we squeeze, can get 10. It's a Geek Chic Emissary with a 4' x 6' dropped play surface.

Geek Chic, eh? Luuuuucky!

We play our bi-monthly game at two collapsable tables that have been pushed together. We comfortable seat six. I am the Watcher, and all I need space for is my tablet, OM and some index cards / sticky notes. I use a die-roller on my tablet, so I don't need space for dice.

n.b. I'm finding that physical dice are much nicer to have and quicker to reference than the die roller I've been using. It works – I simply prefer the physical dice.

Yeah, I am. My wife and I got that rather than go on a honeymoon (though I'm not sure we ever would have gone on a honeymoon; reasons kept cropping up as to why we shouldn't). Plus it ought to be the ONLY dining table we ever need.
