About "Area Attack" SFX

Postby Keji » Sat May 05, 2012 9:46 am

While the name says Area Attack, does it actually only do just that?

So far we played it that as long as you want to effect multiple targets, you do that. But won't that allow one to use it in a solo situation by attacking the enemy, and making an asset for yourself or a friend?

Not that's a bad thing. I'm just wondering what how others play it out.

It's called area attack because it can affect multiple targets without having to spend PPs. However, it does not allow you to make an asset as well as deal stress against a solo. It says specifically to, "Add a d6 and keep an additional effect die for each additional target," OM90. if you only have one target, there are no other targets, therefore no additional effect dice are kept.

You can still spend a PP to do so and narrate it as if the are attack caused the asset!

I meant making an asset for you or a friend, which would make dealing stress/whatever to the enemy, and you or friendlies as "each additional target" wouldn't it?

Guess what I mean is, can we mix assets/complications/stress for each different target?

Could I make 3 complications for each separate target and stress for a 4th?

or

3 assets for three friendlies and 1 complication for an enemy?

You can do whatever you like with the effect dice, but the expectation is that you'll apply one to each additional target.

That should cover it I think, thanks for the usual, swift reply.

I'm hijacking my own thread, reach for the sky!
When spending multiple PP, does each have to be spent differently?

2PP to add 2 extra results to the Total.

or

1PP to add 1 extra result to the Total, and 1PP to keep an extra effect die?

You can spend based on the number of PPs that you have. If I have 5 PPs (if I had enough dice in the pool, or settled for D4s) I could add up to 5 dice to the total, or I could have +5 effect dice (for assets, complication or stress) or any combonation thereof.

Pyro Boy has 1D12, 2D10, 3D8 and 3D6 in his pool for firing his Flamebolt at the villainous Blockbuster. He gets (10), (7,6), (4,8,5) and (4, 4, 2) which is very good.

He chooses to take a 10+8 as his total of 18 (from D10 and D8) with a D10 effect die of Physical Stress. He has 5 PPs, so he chooses to add the 7 (D10) and a 5 (D8) to the total for a 30 Total and spends 2 PPs, he also adds a D8 and a D6 Effects for 2 additional PPs. His original D10 was Physical Stress, so he makes the D8 a Complication of "On Fire" and the D6 as Emotional Stress stemming from the Fear of being on fire.

Pyro Boy now has 1 PP left.

You can spend it on whatever you want, with the caveat that you can't use the same SFX more than once. For example, you can't spend two PPs to reroll a roll twice (second chance SFX). As long as you have the dice to add or keep (add to total or keep as effect die) the sky's the limit!

I should make a thread for all these questions, sheesh.
Another question came up in our chat today. Wolverine and healing.

We still aren't 100% on how recovery works in Action Scenes when you have Stamina Trait. Is it:

You roll die pool that fits vs Doom Pool + Stress Die, if your Effect is equal or larger to the stress die, you remove it, if it's smaller, you step it back. Alternatively, you may spend 1PP to trigger Healing SFX if you have it, like Wolverine does.

Does that mean that he can keep taking d4 distinction and spending that PP in the same action to trigger the sfx till he drops?
