Solo Mini-Event

Solo Mini-Event

Postby Johnny Awesome » Wed May 16, 2012 7:27 pm

My 15 year-old son and I can never agree on games to play, but when I saw MHR I thought we might have a winner on our hands.

He loves Wolverine and I want to run a mini-Event introduction to teach him the game. I really want everything to go well so that we can continue playing.

I'm shying away from using Breakout as he might be able to recruit some friends for that one if he ends up liking the game, so I'd like to save it for later.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

While gaming is always done best with a group lone wolfing can be fun. You could try playing a character with him as well as running the game.

As far as the plot you know you kid the best. Tailor make a story that appeals to what he would be the most interested in. Does he have a favorite villain?

The Mutant Massacre from 1986. Wolverine hunting the Marauders in the Morlock sewers.

Here's Sabertooth already statted for you:

And here are the rest of the Marauders:

Throw in guest appearances by various other X-Men, Thor, or Power Pack to suit taste.

That's a good suggestion.

Anyone else have other ideas for Wolverine solo mini-events?

The classic solo confrontation for Wolverine would be the Hulk. There's a few fan-made write-ups for the Hulk around in the event that they still haven't posted the much-awaited official stats for Hulk and Thor by the time you want to play.

I like this one personally.

Have the Hulk rampaging around in the Canadian wilderness just north of the US border and heading toward an inhabited area. Wolverine is sent to stop him, or at least lure him into rampaging in a different direction.

This would be an especially good showcase for the MHR system because Wolverine has little chance of defeating the Hulk by leaping in and trying to inflict damage. He'll need to make creative use of stunts, assets and complications to win.

Another good Wolverine one-shot is found in this truly excellent list of action scenes here. "Ninjas on a Plane" could be run as is, though for Wolverine the setting might be best changed. But the enemies are a horde of Hand Ninjas led by Lady Deathstrike, thus being a very suitable opponent for Logan.

You could also have Logan chased by Weapon X program soldiers, led by Sabertooth (you have a writeup here in the forum in the X-Men baddies thread). Have the battle happen in a bar, like in the movie (can't remember which one though ;)) and that should prove interesting enough for a solo mini-event.

if you are not inclinded to use wolverine and want to take time to learn the game, might i suggest a simple bank robbery using any of the villians from the operational manual with a small gang of "minions" 3 average, add 2 per addition hero.

a quick way to go over action, reaction rolls, effect die, and the dreaded doom pool..

hope that helps.

Over on Exploring Infinity, there is a couple of Action Scenes that you could use.

The Ninjas on a Plane scene has Lady Deathstrike and ninjas. It sounds perfect for Wolverine!

Wow. Great suggestions everyone.

I really like the Ninjas on a plane for Wolverine.

It would be cool if there was a Marvel VIP suggested for who he might be protecting. Any suggestions for what's in the briefcase?

As you can tell, I don't want to use my brain AT ALL. :)
