Great Lakes Avengers ASSEMBLE!

Great Lakes Avengers ASSEMBLE!

Postby bullfrog4800 » Mon May 14, 2012 5:11 pm

Always been a fan of the quirky characters. When it comes to Marvel Comics to me the biggest misfit characters would be the Great Lake Avengers. Big Bertha, Flatman, Door Man, Squirrel Girl and Mr. Immortal tend to be the heroes you would pick last for anything. Yet with their trusty Quinjetta they have saved the world once. So here is my attempt to stat up these Wisconsin underdogs with a man from my home town.

Mr. Immortal
Craig Hollis [secret]

Affiliations
Solo d6
Buddy d8
Team d10

Distinctions:
I Can’t Die!
Wanna-be Avenger
Whoops!

Homo Supreme
Godlike Stamina d12
SFX- Reckless. Split Godlike Stamina into 2d10 or 3d8 when using Godlike Stamina for combat actions
SFX- Dying is easy. When you are stressed out from physical stress or take physical trauma, you may choose to die. You gain 1 PP. Activate an opportunity to come back to life. Remove all physical stress and trauma.
Limit- Coming back to life is HARD! When you return to life step up Emotional Stress by +1
Limit- Only heals when dead. When rolling to recover from injury or resist physical stress Godlike Stamina steps down by -3
Limit- Mutant. Earn 1 PP when affected by mutant-specific milestones and tech

Specialties:
Acrobatic Expert

Still need to think of some milestones. If anything on the fence about Reckless. My idea for that is since Mr. I knows he is immortal, that he is more willing to throw himself in almost suicidal attacks. Typically you wouldn't use Stamina as an attack, that is why I am on the fence for keeping it or throwing it out. Any opinions?

Maybe replace Reckless with (the text of) Berserk?

Then he can just use the Berserk die for his attacks.

Added: Because when has Mr. Immortal attacking ever made things better? :D

Yet again no milestones, Those are always the hardest to write up for heroes. The * stands for an unoffical skill. Think it's pretty funny that he knows quite a bit about women shoes and wanted to represent that. Please post comments and opinions! Every little bit helps

I'm of the opinion that "custom skills" should just be Distinctions rather than Specialties.

Yeah, that is a better way to handle it Duck Call Lass. Especially with the Operations Manual says. If it doesn't matter, don't roll it. I think Doctor of Stuff can summarize his unusual interest. So 2 down 3 more to go. Next up is the glue of the team. They acquired their HQ from her earnings as a Fashion Model. She is a big fish in a small pond living in Milwaukee, but family is important and the GLA is just that.

Big Bertha
Ashley Crawford [secret]

Affiliations
-Solo d8

Distinctions
-Fashion Model
-Ample Amazon
-Sensitive about her looks

Mutant Brick House
Superhuman Durability D10
Growth D6
Superhuman Strength D10
SFX-Area Attack. Target Multiple Opponents. For every additional target, add D6 and keep +1 effect die
SFX-Sit on the Problem. Add D6 and step up effect die +1 when inflicting a complication on a target
SFX-Wall of Flesh. Spend 1 PP to take physical stress intended for a nearby ally or friend
Limit-Heavy. When on weak structures or swimming, change any Mutant Brick House power into a Complication and gain 1 PP. Activate an opportunity or remove complication to recover the power.
Limit-Purge. Shutdown Mutant Brick House. Gain 1 PP or choose to inflict +1 Mental Stress on anyone witnessing Purge. Activate an opportunity to recover Mutant Brick House.
Limit-Looks are Important. Earn 1 PP and step up emotional stress caused by any shame or ridicule due to your enlarged size.
Limit-Mutant. Earn 1 PP when affected by mutant-specific complication and tech.

Specialties
-Business Expert

Big Bertha is a bit of an oxymoron, super thin model that can transform into a big bulking woman. I liked the idea of using purge to possible cause stress to someone. Ironically enough for her size Big Bertha is as nimble as she is without her powers. Again any opinions always help!

Getting down to the final two GLA members. I am going to show off Doorman. Honestly thought he was going to be easy character to create. HE WAS NOT!! They jokingly say he is a Level 10 Teleport, but can only get you to the other side of the wall/object. To me his ability is closer to Intangibility then Teleportation. Also wanted to represent his newly acquired abilities since being dead. I took a lot of liberties writing up Doorman and probably got a little lazy. I think Doorman has made me as Cynical about him as he is in the comics. Enjoy!

Doorman

Distinctions
-Cynical Avenger
-Part-Time Angel of Death

Darkforce Doorway

SFX- Power of Doors! Other characters can travel through Doorman using his power by spending 1 PP. Add Darkforce Doorway to that characters dice pool for that turn.
Limit- Mutant. Earn 1 PP when affected by mutant-specific complication and tech

Herald of Oblivion
Invisibility D12
Flight D6
Reaper Sense D8
Teleport D10
Limit-Knocking on Heaven’s Door. Those who are deceased or have a close affiliation with death are immune to Invisibility.
Limit-Grim Reaper. Invisibility and Teleport are only available when the Distinction Part-Time Angel of Death is in play.
Limit-Dethurge’s Old Job. Earn 1 PP and step up Mental Stress caused by being detained or incapacitated from collecting Souls for Oblivion.

Again any comments, tweaks, or obeservations always appericated.

Finally the last member of the GLA. Squirrel Girl was an interesting person to write up. Some marvel sites said she has Enhanced Strength while other have her strength maxing out at 25 tons. If you prefer her weaker I would suggest dropping strength down to D8. I prefer my girls strong! There is a good squirrel girl listed @ http://lightofplay.blogspot.com/2012/03/marvel-heroic-roleplaying.html
I think SFX Cannon is funny, awesome and great! I have tweaked it a little for my own twisted mind.

So here she is!

Squirrel Girl
Doreen Green [Public]

SFX-Healing Factor. Spend 1 PP to recover your physical stress and step back your physical trauma by -1.
SFX-Squirrel Agility. Spend 1 PP to reroll a reaction when using Enhanced Reflexes.
SFX-With my Cosmic Senses, I can confirm that this is, in fact, the one true INSERT NAME, and not a robot, clone or simulacrum. Spend ALL PP and 2D12 from the Doom Pool while Solo to immediately end the Action Scene. You may narrate the defeat of your opponent!
Limit-My lips taste like Hazelnut and I have a tail! Earn 1 PP and step up emotional stress caused by relationship problems.

Next thing I will be posting or Milestones for the characters. Again any comments and suggestions are welcomed. Especially for any Milestones for this misfit team.
