Thor & Wrecking Crew - DLC Discussion

Is there something actually in the rules that says the Doom Pool can not have a d4 in it?

I know the smallest die that can be added by normal methods is a d6, but isn't that because everything says "add a d6" when talking about it?

Thor plopping a d4 into the doom pool is in the same boat as Beast using Oh My Stars and Garters! to grab a d6 from the doom pool and then stepping it down and putting it back.

Or it steps up the largest doom die? It's really oddly worded, indeed.

Glad I'm not the only one that feels that. I wondered if my English was lacking, but it seems strangely difficult to wrap my head around.

I have to say that I absolutely love this game, but it is plagued with somewhat unclear language at times.

Would Mjolnir count as a magical attack for purposes of the Wrecking Crews Invulnerability limitation?

So, Thor's lightning blasts should be handled as Mystic Expert or Weapon d10?

Can't stop staring at the Thor DLC!

Anyway, let's say I want Thor to do what he did in the movie where he brings down some kind of tornado/wind tunnel which pulls the Destroyer up into the sky. What would be the more appropriate (if that's even applicable here) effect, a Stunt or a Complication?

A stunt which you use in a pool to create a complication on the target with your effect die.

Solo d10+Righteous Warrior d8+Weather influence d6+Weather Supremacy d12+Mystic Expert d8+Whirlwind stunt d8.

1d12+1d10+3d8+1d6 all to cause a nice complication (hopefully using the d12 as an effect die) that can be used next panel. If that's a d12 complication, you can add that in to your pool with Godlike Strength d12 and I say thee nay'd weapon which becomes a third d12! Chances are, you'll stress him out!

You can have a d4 in the doom pool, it just doesn't happen that often.

Thor creates a stunt using Mjolnir when he wants to draw down lightning and pairs it up with Weather Supremacy. He doesn't actually call lightning bolts all that often, unlike Storm who has it built into her Power Set as a blast. The same applies to whirlwinds and other weather-related effects, all of which are just stunts most of the time.

Thor's official Fighting Skills rating in the Marvel Universe handbook isn't that high. Like Hercules, who is also a Combat Expert, these two gods have spent millennia relying on their vast strength and stamina to win fights, over and above their talents at weapons and arms. Even so, Combat Expert's nothing to sniff at.

I'm going to use this DLC for a micro-session at the weekend and I'm afraid that it could run a little too short. Do you guys have any ideas to expand it into a full Act or Mini-Event? :)

So this is also confirmation that it is your own (Thor's) effect die that is moved to the DP?

If so this is a new (to my knowledge) addition to the SFX mechanics. I can't remember another roll where you would like the effect to be as small as possible (here to add as small a die to the DP as possible). If this was a conscious design decision I'd love to hear the thoughts behind it story-wise, and related to game-mechanics?

btw: I'm not trying to be "snarky" in any way, genuinely interested in this as it is very helpful to hear your thoughts on such things when working on my own homebrewed SFX and such.

Yes, you move Thor's effect die into the doom pool. However, you may also want to spend 1 PP to use your effect die against your opponent, which would at least require you to have a die that's worth throwing at him. Clever Thor players will simply ensure they get a good reaction total and leave their weakest die (d4, for instance) as the effect die, in order to drop that into the doom pool when they use Anti-Force. It's still a doom die, even if it's a little opportunity-increasing one.
