New Events for 2013!

For a mini-Event, how about the wedding of Reed and Sue? Not that much plot, just a lot of fighting, but a great list of Silver Age Marvel heroes and villains to try pitting against each other.

It would be stretching it to call that an event.

And would hardly have enough to hang even a mini-event book on.

I think that an Asgardian themed Event would be really good. I've seen a bunch of people online trying to come up with their own home brewed Fantasy version of MHRP. If you made an Asgardian event that included rules designed for playing Asgardians or the dwarves and elves from the setting, you'd basically be providing an official Fantasy hack for MHRP.

I'd love to see the main thing be Simonson's ragnarok, which I've seen called "the Surtur Saga" or the Casket of Ancient Winters. It starts off pretty Thor-centric, but you also have the Avengers and Beta Ray Bill and the FF and Power Pack all eventually getting involved. Then you do the New Mutants in Asgard as one of the supplements for it. And maybe even Avengers: Prime (with options for a different set of Avengers in those roles and more fleshing out of the setting).

I don't know, until I see the level of detail provided in the actual Event books that come out, it's hard for me to think of what constitutes enough material for an Event or Supplement, but I think there's enough there if you broaden it to include anything Asgard-related and I'd certainly like to see official rules for re-skinning MHRP as a fantasy game.

I think Onslaught would make a good choice.
You could have the Onslaught event book, two supplements for the Rebornverse (one for Captain America and the Avengers the other for Iron Man and the Fantastic Four), an X-Men supplement, and finally a Thunderbolts supplement (since the T-Bolts are the best and longest lasting legacy of the Onslaught/Heroes Reborn event).

Another interesting option is Inferno. While it mainly was an X-Men story, it crossed over into Spider-man, Daredevil, The Avengers, The Fantastic Four, Cloak & Dagger, and Power Pack.

An event based on the lead up to Captain America 350 would be awesome. And will never happen

Fear Itself might be good; it'd be cool to see some Defenders stuff. Also, it would be cool to see some Invaders (WW II) and beat up some Nazi's and super science :D

I definitely think that Secret Wars, Secret Invasion, Dark Reign, and the Inifinty trilogy works. But I'd also like to see some unpredicted stuff like...

The Marvel Cinematic Universe (Avengers as the Event book with supplements for each of the movie franchises.)

Korvac Saga (Main event being in the main book, with the Korvac Quest and Contest of Champions being the supplements.)

Coming of Galactus (with supplements for other Galactus/Heralds stories, like the Trial of Galactus.)

Thanos War (Primary book being the Cosmic Cube setup from Captain Marvel, supplements being the Warlock series stuff and the Avengers/MTIO annual conclusion.)

I also like the idea of mini-event collections quite a bit... but I'd love to see sourcebooks for the major teams, organizations, and unique areas with supplemental materials being major stories involving them.

I have a feeling that with the exception of Age of Apocalypse, we won't be seeing any Events that are more than 5 or so years old.

First of all, they are looking to bring in new gamers, not just older gamers.

Second of all, CAM mentioned the problems with the artwork.

Third of all, Age of Apocalypse can support a bunch of Event Supplement books because it introduces an entire alternate reality. Most of the other older events don't really lend themselves to new settings / rules / campaign features to the same extent... except maybe Onslaught / Heroes Reborn (which is the one of the storylines that bankrupted Marvel both fiscally and artistically, so maybe not the greatest choice for an Event book).

I could be totally off base here, but I think we are going to see a lot of recent stuff like Secret Invasion, Dark Reign, World War Hulk, Shadowlands, etc, and not too much old stuff like Secret Wars, Kree/Skrull War, etc.

It's too bad that everything is entirely Event based... that means it will be difficult, if not impossible, to run a extended, ongoing campaign (without a ton of creative writing on the Watcher's part), and it also means that it we won't see any new adventures (like the old TSR game have, such as Breeder Bombs, Gates of What If, Left Hand of Eternity, etc), only adaptations of previously published adventures.

From what I can see, the published materials for this game will be mostly geared towards promoting recent Marvel comic books, and allowing players to relive their favorite (recent) comic book storyline with little to no variation. For example, the Breakout Mini-Event is nearly beat for beat the same as the published comic book, except you can make some changes to the New Avengers line-up (perhaps swapping out the Thing for Luke Cage as the "Strong Guy" on the New Avengers, etc).

If you want to see any original Events, where you don't already know the beginning, middle or end, or any older Events, I think you'll have to create them on your own.

But maybe I'm wrong?
